Biography

“Veritas Rex” loosely translated means “Truth is King.” Believing in absolute Truth is often viewed with skepticism. Truth is commonly seen as relative. Therefore, stating that Truth is King could be considered revolutionary in the age in which we live. The significance of this name for IFI is rooted in the revolutionary work of a remarkable Scot named Samuel Rutherford (c. 1600-1660). In his seminal work, Rutherford took the ruling political ethic of the day – Rex Lex – or the King is Law—and turned it literally upside down—the Law is King, by which he meant (and so do we) God’s Law.

This book, Lex Rex, was immediately branded as treason by the English Government and burned as he was placed under a death sentence that could not be carried out before he succumbed to a natural death. However, the book and its theory of limited government and constitutionalism prevailed and was a very important pillar to the founding of the American Republic.

Through Veritas Rex we hope to foster a conversation that will help us remember those mysterious and ancient truths that so often get overlooked in modern discussions. Truths that we ignore at our peril. Truths lived and spoken by the Lion of Judah. We will let Truth and Falsehood grapple, confident that Truth is King.

Veritas Rex is hosted by the Indiana Family Institute, a non-profit affiliated with Focus on the Family, formed in 1989 (our doors opened in 1990) to strengthen Hoosier families. We are a Bible-believing, Christ-centered, faith-based organization with a Board of Directors and professional staff committed to helping Hoosier families.
